This piece is dedicated to the collaboration mothertongues and honors all the LSBs out there who speak their truths in the face of patriarchy, capitalism, and systemic racism. Thank you for leading the way so that others may follow. Thank you for giving voice to your experience, and for envisioning a future that defies definition and boundaries. May these words leave our tongues as gently and as intentionally as we exited the wombs of our mothers. May we march onward, birthing pearls from our lips.

Ali Kheradyar’s practice explores performative gestures in photography, video, movement, sound, and text. With an ongoing interest in ‘the frame,’ Kheradyar isolates and presents imagery as performance to draw attention to moments of intimacy and desire. Kheradyar’s Iranian heritage informs the work and the representation of the body; elements are veiled yet revealed, while a tendency towards minimalism brings the body to the forefront. Kheradyar holds a BA in Dance, Music, and Performance from NYU’s Gallatin School, an MA in Performance Studies from NYU’s Tisch School, and an MFA in Art from CalArts.
